Bomberos de Nosara
Firefighters are Essential to the Safety and Security of our Local Communities
Only a decade ago, a serious fire in Nosara meant waiting for the regional Fire Department to travel over an hour on bad roads. Despite best efforts, their arrival time was often too late. In November 2009 a local resident decided this life or death time delay demanded a local response. Armed with basic, donated firefighting equipment he sounded a rallying cry for volunteer firefighters. The call was answered by a small, committed crew of selfless public servants ready to take up the fight.
A decade since their formation, these volunteers have saved countless homes, lives, and livelihoods, and evolved into an indispensable, and highly utilized community resource. They remain on call night and day to be wherever needed at a moment’s notice. And the only reason they continue to exist is through your donations.
Although highly trained, these men and women, many of whom have full-time jobs and / or families, are not professionals. In the beginning, expenses such as protective gear, tools, transport, supplies, and much more, came out of their own pocket. As their call volume shot up, this funding model became unsustainable. Nowadays, the only reason Nosara’s volunteer team of firefighters are stronger, quicker, better trained, and better equipped than ever is because of the donations they receive.
